The
original name of the city of Piedmont was Danielsville. Two brothers,
James E. Daniel and William Daniel, received homestead land grants
in 1853. William established a store, which brought other businesses,
and soon Danielsville began to grow. While James became a successful
farmer, William became the first Justice of the Peace and became
know as the Squire Daniel. The city was renamed Piedmont meaning
"An area of shallow, rolling hills formed or lying at the foot
of a mountain or mountain range." More
